Vineyard – History

Our vineyard is called 'Κατάβολος' and is located at an altitude of 500-530 meters, in a traditional winemaking area, in the Middle Mountain of Andros. These are our roots, the foundation of a special love relationship with our land and its history. The vineyard covers 17 stremma (1 stremma equals approximately 1000 square meters) of drought-resistant vines and is part of a larger 40-stremma estate that has been in the family for many years.

In the 1950s, our grandfather Antonis, a hard-working and versatile man, made tremendous efforts to shape a large part of the estate and the rural stone buildings that existed on it. He planted various grapes like koumaria, mavrakia, mavrostyfa, nychato, kountoura, athiri, asyrtiko, begleri, and potamisia. To meet the operational needs of winemaking, he dug a large well and made a borehole, providing ample water of excellent quality.

Vasilis, driven by his love for nature, took over from his father, Antonis. Since 1984, he permanently settled in Andros with his family. Alongside his work as an engineer, he passionately began to work on the land. He modernized electrical and hydraulic installations on the estate, renovated the buildings, and from the native grape varieties of the island that existed in the vineyard, he made new plantings. Using modern technological methods, he started systematic viticultural and winemaking efforts. With the strength of the schist soil, the microclimate, and the biodiversity of the place as allies, and with the participation of the entire family, he passionately cared for the vineyards.

In 2012, official approval was given for a winery in the vineyard. In 2018, the organic cultivation of the vineyards was certified.

The newer generation now significantly contributes to all critical phases of the work. With persistence and patience, relying on experiences that arise from years of experimentation, we produce our wine, with utmost respect for the environment, exclusively using our own grapes, traditionally, without interventions. All wines are produced from spontaneous fermentation, bottled unfiltered, and are organic.
